New Private Sector Minimum Wage Order (from 1 January 2026)

The Prime Minister’s Office Labour, Youth, Employment and Persons with Disability has issued the new wage order, the Labour Institutions (Minimum Wage for Private Sector) Order 2025 (New Order), which shall come into effect on 1 January 2026 and will revoke the Labour Institutions (Minimum Wage for Private Sector) Order 2022.

The New Order outlines sectoral activities and their corresponding wages broken down into hourly, daily, weekly, fortnightly and monthly rates for various businesses in the private sector, including but not limited to:

  1. Agriculture – for example:
    • crop or animal production TZS 175,000 per month
    • fishing and aquaculture TZS 300,000 per month
  2. Communications – for example:
    • telecom services TZS 644,000 per month
  3. Construction
  4. Domestic work or services – for example:
    • for diplomats / major businessmen TZS 328,000 per month
    • for entitled officers TZS 265,000 per month
    • non resident (not for diplomats / major businessmen) TZS 160,000 per month
    • others TZS 80,000 per month
  5. Energy – for example:
    • international company TZS 765,900 per month
    • domestic company TZS 297,000 per month
  6. Health
  7. Hotel and hospitality
  8. Industrial
  9. Mining – for example:
    • mining TZS 695,000 per month
    • PML TZS 397,600 per month
  10. Private school
  11. Private security
  12. Sports, arts, entertainment, gaming
  13. Trade and finance – for example:
    • commercial banks TZS 733,000 per month
    • micro credit financial services TZS 699,000 per month
  14. Transport and shipping- for example:
    • aviation TZS 498,000 per month
    • freight clearing TZS 464,000 per month
  15. Waste collection, processing and disposal
  16. Any other sector not specified – for example TZS 175,000 per month
